Hailing from Mexico City, Gabriela Artigas has established herself as a bonafide trendsetter with her jewelry collections. Since 2003, the Los Angeles based designer, works playfully to create beautiful pieces -necklaces, rings, bracelets, cuffs, lariats, sashes- that are desired all around the world. There is a certain energy that resonates from the line. The last two progressive collections of bauble spheres, dead stock Swarovski crystals, gold tusks, chunks of pyrite, and raw leather held a strong futuristic appeal that amped up their credibility. ELLE, VOGUE, Harper’s BAZAAR, and FLAUNT are just a few high profile magazines that have featured the elegant creations.
The brand-new collection, Raven, is one that takes Artigas back to her beginnings of combining small and clean objects. Similar to some of the earlier classic pieces that implemented delicate materials and vintage objects (such as the vintage Chanel mesh bow bracelets and necklaces), Raven follows to that suit. Thin black chains link to contrasting geometric brass objects that are all effortlessly hand made by Gaby herself. Tiny studs vary in shape from circles, squares, and triangles then there are the cylinders tubes and rectangular sticks and spikes that subtlety dangle.
Co-owner and sales director (and big sis), Tere Artigas, explained that this time around they stepped away from the monumental complex statements of the latter to revisit time-honored, yet, modern simple designs. This collection is simple to wear day to day and leaves it to you to layer at your discretion [if at all] but [thankfully] requires the least amount of thinking- no more wondering if this goes with that. Think of each piece as a must have jewelry staple for any outfit be it a pair of black leather shorts, a distressed t-shirt, and combat boots or a LBD, cheetah print stockings and platform pumps. A finishing touch that we suggest you get before the limited run sells out especially since the $90 to $110 price tag is too affordable to be true.
