Beetle Wings

This piece is made entirety of the wings of the Sternocera Aequisignata Beetle form the Buprestidae family. Commonly known as the Thai Jewel Beetle and coveted for its beautiful scarab like wings, the jewel beetle is raised on farms in North Thailand as a food source. After the insects are harvested in food, their hard shell jewel like shell is collected and made into jewelry by local craftsmen. Every wing is unique in size and color. Sometimes they reflect more copper, other times as a vibrant peacock blue. The color depends on the age of the insect, and what environmental conditions it was raised in. They are completely natural and left untreated.
